Location

Puerto Peñasco, also known as Rocky Point, is a Mexican fishing and resort city on the Gulf of California.  It has been nicknamed "Arizona’s Beach" as it is the closest beach to cities such as Phoenix and Tucson. The warm sea surface temperatures of the northern end of the gulf cause Puerto Peñasco to have a much warmer climate than coastal cities on the Pacific both in the Mexican and American Californias.

Getting Here

Driving from Phoenix International Airport is an easy 4 hour drive. Shuttle Rocky Point and Head Out  to Rocky Point offer service from PHX to your destination in Rocky Port. Dollar Rental Car/Thrifty Rental Car and Phoenix Car Rentals allow you to rent cars for traveling into Rocky Point. You must pay for Mexican Auto Insurance. There is a charter flight through from Phoenix to Puerto Penasco Airport which is about 18 minutes from our beach through West Wind Private Charters. Click on the map for the GPS location and driving directions to our house. If you are driving your own car, you will need Mexican Auto inserance. Click here or on the red banner below to purchase just before your departure. If you are renting a car, you will need to purchase insurance throught the rental agency.

Weather

The weather begins to get a little less humid after Labor Day however temps are still in the high 80's to low 90's with even the sea tempatures quite balmy at around 86 degrees. You will want to bring lots of sunscreen. We do have plenty of A/C inside to keep us cool and the sea is just steps away!

Where to Stay

We have fantastic resorts either direction and just 1 mile down the beach on either side. Luna Blanca & Encanto Living Condos to our south are very quiet and have beautifully maintained pools and spa. Playa Azul to the north is newer, livelier and has a few pools, spa and restaraunt. There is a 3 bedroom house in our neighborhood that rents as a VRBO as well. And a 3 bedroom/2 bath condo. Please contact Elizabeth if you are interested in one of the locations as I can try to contact the owners/managers for a direct/group discount. Happy to help! (Links below).

Playa Azul Email Brenda@PlayaAzulRockyPoint.com for discounted room rates and mention Scott Sandell's 50th bday.

A passport or passport card is required for driving across the border into Mexico. A passport card is an option only when driving. There are several border crossings from California and western Arizona. The closest from Phoenix airport is Lukeville Port of Entry

If you are driving a car, you must also have Mexican auto insurance. It can be purchased the same day you are traveling and we will provide a link as soon as we have it.
